Samsung has officially entered the U.S. credit card arena with the launch of the Galaxy Card, a move that positions the company squarely against Apple’s long‑established financial ecosystem. The new Visa‑powered card, issued through Barclays, integrates directly with Samsung Wallet, allowing users to apply, activate, and manage the card instantly from their Galaxy devices.

The Galaxy Card offers a tiered cashback structure designed to reward Samsung loyalists. Cardholders earn 5% cash rewards on purchases made directly from Samsung, 3% on Samsung Wallet transactions, 2% on streaming services like Netflix, Disney+, and Spotify, and 1% on all other purchases. New users can also receive a $200 bonus after spending $2,000 within the first 90 days.

Samsung’s timing is strategic. The card launches just ahead of its July 22 Galaxy Unpacked event, signaling a broader push into financial services as tech companies increasingly blend hardware ecosystems with payment platforms. Apple has long used the Apple Card to reinforce its Wallet ecosystem, and Samsung is now mirroring that strategy—offering financing options for Galaxy devices, VIP Advantage membership discounts, and seamless digital integration backed by Samsung Knox security.

The Galaxy Card’s debut underscores Samsung’s ambition to deepen customer loyalty and expand beyond traditional hardware. With no annual fee, instant Wallet provisioning, and rewards tailored to its product lineup, Samsung is building a financial layer into its ecosystem—one that directly challenges Apple’s credit dominance and signals a future where smartphones serve as the central hub for consumer banking.
