Apple is finally delivering the AI-powered version of Siri that iPhone users have been waiting for—but not everyone will get to use it.

Launching this fall alongside iOS 27, the all-new Siri AI introduces a dramatically smarter digital assistant powered by Apple's next-generation Apple Intelligence platform. The revamped Siri can understand personal context, search through your messages, emails, and photos, answer questions about what's on your screen, perform complex actions across apps, and even access the web for more conversational responses.

However, these advanced AI features require newer hardware with enough processing power and memory, meaning compatibility is limited to a select group of iPhones.

Compatible iPhone Models

If you own one of the following devices, you'll be able to use Siri AI when it officially launches this fall:

  • iPhone 15 Pro

  • iPhone 15 Pro Max

  • iPhone 16

  • iPhone 16 Plus

  • iPhone 16 Pro

  • iPhone 16 Pro Max

  • iPhone 16e

  • iPhone 17

  • iPhone 17e

  • iPhone 17 Pro

  • iPhone 17 Pro Max

  • iPhone Air

Unfortunately, even though older devices like the iPhone 15, iPhone 14, iPhone 13, and earlier models will receive iOS 27, they won't support the new Siri AI experience due to hardware limitations.

Apple is also reserving its most advanced on-device AI model for only its newest premium hardware. Features such as more expressive Siri voices, advanced dictation, and the highest-performance on-device AI processing will initially be limited to the iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air.

The Bottom Line

The arrival of Siri AI marks Apple's biggest overhaul of its voice assistant since Siri first debuted in 2011. While millions of users with recent iPhones will gain access to a more capable, conversational, and personalized assistant this fall, those using older devices may find themselves facing an upgrade decision if they want the full Apple Intelligence experience. As Apple continues making AI the centerpiece of its software ecosystem, compatible hardware is quickly becoming just as important as the latest version of iOS.
