Apple customers may soon need to dig deeper into their wallets. The tech giant announced significant price increases across several MacBook and iPad models, citing soaring memory and storage chip costs fueled by the rapid growth of artificial intelligence infrastructure worldwide.
The price hikes, which affect many MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iPad Air, and iPad Pro models, range from roughly 15% to 25% depending on the device. Entry-level products have seen increases of around $100, while some higher-end MacBook configurations now cost several hundred dollars more than before.
According to Apple, the unprecedented demand for memory and storage components from AI data centers has driven manufacturing costs sharply higher. CEO Tim Cook previously warned that rising component prices would eventually force the company to pass some of those costs on to consumers.
Notably, Apple has not raised prices on iPhones, Apple Watches, or AirPods at this time, though industry analysts suggest additional adjustments could occur if component shortages persist.
For consumers considering a new MacBook or iPad, the announcement may accelerate purchasing decisions as Apple enters a period of higher hardware pricing. The move also highlights a growing trend across the technology industry, where AI-driven demand is beginning to influence the cost of everyday consumer electronics.
